Antivirus and updates

The College has a site licence for McAfee VirusScan software from Network Associates. The software is licenced for QMUL machines only. It is not available for installation on staff or students personal devices.

The software is available for the following platforms

  • Apple Macintosh
  • DOS
  • Windows 9x, NT, 2000, ME, XP, 2003 Server, Vista, 7
  • OS2
  • UNIX

Keeping VirusScan up-to-date

To maintain the effectiveness of VirusScan once installed, you should upgrade to the latest release when available and make sure that the scanning 'engine' and the virus database are kept up-to-date.

To upgrade to the latest version contact the IT Service Desk. You can call the IT Service Desk 24/7 on 020 7882 8888 or raise a ticket. You can visit us in the Queens' Building on the Mile End Campus. Our opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm.

Updating the scan engine and data files on Windows systems is controlled through the VirusScan Console which may be opened either from the Shield icon on the right of the Windows Task Bar or from the Start menu.
