Mapping drives G: J:

Unmanaged Clients: Windows Mac Linux

Windows clients

Should you have any issues mapping the drives contact the Service Desk to check your device has been allowed access to the network

To map drives manually using your QM username and password:  

  • For your home directory (G: drive)
  1. Right click My Computer or This PC in Windows Explorer then click on Map Network Drive.
  2. Choose drive letter G: and in the folder path box type: 
    \\fs1.qm.ds.qmul.ac.uk\H1
  3. Tick the box that says Connect using different credentials and click on Finish. You will be prompted for your Queen Mary credentials. Username will be QM\username (e.g. aaw000) with your normal QM password
  • For your departmental directory (J: drive)
  1. Right click My Computer or This PC in Windows Explorer then click on Map Network
  2. Choose drive letter J: and in the folder path box type: 
    \\fs1.qm.ds.qmul.ac.uk\faculty - department code (see table below)
    e.g. 
    \\fs1.qm.ds.qmul.ac.uk\PRS-RCS 
  3. Tick the box that says Connect using different credentials and click on Finish. You will be prompted for your QM credentials. Username will be QM\username (e.g. aaw000) with your normal QM password

Mac OS

Should you have any issues mapping the drives contact the Service Desk to check your device has been allowed access to the network

  • For your home directory
  1. Switch to the finder and press Cmd + K to open the Connect to Server dialogue box OR click the Finder icon and select Connect to Server.
  2. Enter the home drive network share location in the following format: 
    smb://fs1.qm.ds.qmul.ac.uk/H1
  • For your departmental directory
  1. Switch to the finder and Press Cmd + K to open the Connect to Server dialogue box OR click the Finder icon and select Connect to Server .
  2. Enter the department drive network share location in the following format:
    smb://fs1.qm.ds.qmul.ac.uk/faculty – department code (see table below)
    e.g.
    smb://fs1.qm.ds.qmul.ac.uk /PRS-RCS

Linux Clients

Should you have any issues mapping the drives contact the Service Desk to check your device has been allowed access to the network

You will need to map to the new home drive and department location using the smbclient or mount command . The paths are:

//fs1.qm.ds.qmul.ac.uk/H1

and

//fs1.qm.ds.qmul.ac.uk/faculty – department code (see table below) e.g.

//fs1.qm.ds.qmul.ac.uk/SAS-ECS
