Audio Visual support

Our AV/IT team support around 180 teaching rooms and 40 lecture theatres across our campuses. The core support hours are 8am to 6pm weekdays.

Teaching rooms

Teaching rooms fall into categories of lecture theatres, and various size teaching rooms each containing a variety of AV equipment. We will always provide a white board, projector or plasma screen and a room PC or input for a laptop.

The bigger lecture theatres house a larger range of equipment. These rooms have either single or dual screens and are operated using a control system. All meeting rooms will have user guides located near or on the lecterns explaining how to use the system.

To book equipment and/or technician assistance in advance, raise a ticket with the Service Desk.

Room inventories:

The inventories below show the fixed audiovisual (AV) equipment within rooms which can be self-accessed:

Video Conferencing

A video conference can be thought of as a phone call with pictures. A video conference is a live connection between people in separate locations for the purpose of communication, usually involving audio and often text as well as video. At its simplest, videoconferencing provides transmission of static images and text between two locations. At its most sophisticated, it provides transmission of full-motion video images and high-quality audio between multiple locations.

Video conferencing is an invaluable tool in an administrative and teaching environment. It provides the facility to allow meetings to be set up at short notice reducing the need to travel. Documentation can be shared electronically with all the participants and the facility to keep in touch with remote colleagues. It will save time, allow you to optimise your agenda and make decisions rapidly, as well as reduce your travel, your stress and your carbon footprint. In the teaching environment video conference provides a flexible and robust solution ideally suited for applications such as distance learning, remote medical diagnosis, on demand project collaboration and more.

We have a video conference estate of:

  • 9 Lecture theatres equipped with video conferencing facilities.
These are two camera systems ideally suited for lecture theatres. Views of the presenters and audience can be sent to the far end together with presentations.
  • 3 Portable systems.
These systems are ideally suited to accommodate meetings of between one and four people, allowing video, audio and presentations to be shared with an external site which has video conferencing capabilities.

If you would like to discuss video conferencing facilities contact the Service Desk ext 8888, who can put you in touch with the correct people to talk to.

If you would like to book a video conference please complete the Video conference On-line Booking Form
